Established in 1984, the hospital is a medical center in western Chongming. On June 25, 2015, the hospital cooperated with Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, named Chongming Branch of Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The hospital covers an area of 15,000 square meters, with a building area of 12,000 square meters. It has 12 clinical departments, 6 clinical wards and 230 certified beds. The new site of the Third District People's Hospital is located in the center of Miao Town, with a total land area of about 39,000 square meters and a total construction area of about 42,000 square meters, reaching baigang Street Road in the east, Baimishahong in the south, Miaoxi Road in the west and Honghai Road in the north. It consists of outpatient, emergency and medical technology buildings, logistics support buildings, first-aid stations and underground garages, with a height of 17.65 meters. It is expected to be completed and put into use in 2020, and will become a general hospital featuring rehabilitation and integrating traditional Chinese and western medicine.
